Global oil and gas investments are set to hit $628 billion this year, compared with $602 billion in 2021, led by an increase in upstream natural gas and liquefied natural gas project spending, Rystad Energy says. The energy consultancy says there are six LNG projects set to come online in North America, while major exporter Qatar is also planning LNG-production capacity expansion. While Omicron-related disruptions may cap near-term energy demand in the major crude-consuming sectors of transport and aviation, the overall outlook for oil and gas is bright as economies recover, Rystad Energy says.
